ACUPUNCTURE
What's it good for?
Acupuncture works by restoring your body's own ability to heal itself.
You've probably heard that it's good for pain relief, and it is. What you may not realize is that it also treats insomnia, infertility, digestive disorders, hormonal imbalances, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure and stress, and much more. Learn more about treatment options with Acupuncture.
Feel Better Today
You don't have to wait to feel better. When you walk out of your acupuncture session, you will notice a difference. Your treatment plan may include a series of sessions for you to fully recover, but you will most likely feel an improvement right away.
Acupuncture is virtually painless and very relaxing (many people fall asleep during treatment!). It's a cost-effective self-care approach that everyone can use, from babies and children to seniors. It restores health.
During your session, I will feel your pulse on both wrists, look at your tongue, and palpate different muscle groups and points along the body’s meridian system. All of these methods provide information about how your body is functioning, and where its blockages or weaknesses are located.
Acupuncture needles are made of stainless steel, sterile, and used only once. They are very fine. After insertion into selected body points, the needles are stimulated to varying degrees, producing a characteristic sensation that ranges from tingling and heaviness to a slight electrical sensation. After stimulation, the needles are left in place for 20-30 minutes, at which time you may feel very relaxed and even fall asleep.
Trigger Point Release...
...is a specialized form of acupuncture that is used to relieve pain caused by acute or chronic muscle tension anywhere in the body. It has its own unique sensation, distinct from other forms of acupuncture. It is an extremely effective way to quickly relieve pain related to muscular injury or tension. The release of trigger points with acupuncture will make physical therapy and other forms of treatment more successful in rehabilitating an injury.
Auricular Therapy...
...is treatment of the outside of the ear with acupuncture as a way of treating the whole body. It can be used on its own or in combination with body points to treat the whole body.
Acupuncture Points...
...can also be treated with manual pressure (pressing on the points), massage, or with heat, light, sound, or essential oils to get the desired effect.
Adjunct Therapies
Cupping is another form of treatment that is sometimes used along with acupuncture, when needed. It uses suction cups over the surface of the skin, to release muscle tension, and to support circulation and lymphatic drainage in order to improve organ function.
Gua Sha uses a firm surface to stroke the surface of the skin. Its effects are similar to those of cupping.
Moxibustion is the application of a warming herb, known as "moxa," over specific acupuncture points, either on its own or in combination with acupuncture needles. It can be used to increase energy, warmth in the body, or to relieve inflammation or pain syndromes, including tendonitis.
