First Visit

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
– Lao-tzu

Initial visits generally last from 60 to 90 minutes. We will review a detailed health history, perform a physical exam, and provide you with your initial treatment, explaining what is happening as we go.

During this visit, you may be asked a wide range of questions about your symptoms, eating, exercise, sleep habits, emotional states and anything that may offer insight into your health.

In traditional Chinese medicine we employ diagnostic tools that such as tongue and pulse diagnosis, all of which helps to put together a better understanding of the root causes of your health issues so that we can treat them most effectively.

Your treatment plan

Gathering all of this information together will help to explain:

  • Your underlying imbalances
  • The recommended treatment approaches
  • What you can expect

Getting the most out of treatment

For the best treatment results, keep a few things in mind:

  • Please arrive on time
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothes, if possible
  • Be sure to discuss any questions or concerns with your acupuncturist
  • Refrain from overexertion for several hours after your treatment
  • Follow your treatment plan between visits

How treatment works

To treat any imbalances that underlie your health conditions, fine, sterile needles will be inserted at specific acupuncture points along the meridian pathways. Your treatment will focus on acupuncture points related to specific organ or myofascial systems, based on your unique issues and symptoms. Everything will be explained to you as we go.

Additional therapies may be included in your treatment, as needed, such as cupping, gua sha or moxibustion. Herbal medicine is another important aspect of Chinese medicine that may be recommended for some patients.

Your role in the healing process

Your actions are a key component of your healing process. Focusing on your health and committing to a healthy lifestyle are the best steps you can take for your well-being. Together, we can work as a team to heal your imbalances and help you achieve optimal health and balance.

Even after your symptoms are resolved, acupuncture can assist you in maintaining your health, and ideally prevent future imbalances.

Acupuncture is not an instant fix.

True healing takes time and dedication. Depending on your current health and symptoms, you could feel better right away, or you may need treatments for a longer period of time. Either way, you can expect to see some positive changes very quickly.

Chinese medicine offers a safe and effective holistic health care system. This natural approach can both resolve symptoms and enhance your overall health.

By taking the right steps and planting the seeds of health, you are on the road to a healthier you!
